EarthRise Programs

Project EarthRise has 4 basic programs: Solar Energy Production, Sustianability Curriculum, Energy Managment Systems, and Green Culture

1. Solar Energy Production

Participating schools are “fitted” for solar energy generation systems. Each system is designed in accordance with statutory regulations and code, and based on economic valuation/production potential. Schools have the option of procuring a system through grants and loans or working with us to arranage a power purchase agreement (PPA) with one of our "Service Providers" or Corporate partners. If schools go with a PPA, the systems are owned and operated by the Service Providers. Service Providers will function as independent energy suppliers – harvesting radiant energy, inverting it on-site from DC to AC and supplying it to the host schools. When production exceeds demand in the schools, the Service Provider will sell surplus energy back to the local grid (net metering).

2. Sustainability Curriculum

Project EarthRise will develop and help implement sustainability curriculum that meet state standards while educating students about the importance of protecting our environment and the opportunities to create a brighter tomorrow. We will provide professional development opportunites for teachers and a state-of-the-art online resource and network for support.

3. Energy Management Systems (EMS)

To keep all energy consumption levels (costs) low, schools will receive energy management support at two levels:

1) Technical Support Program:

EarthRise will help to install “smart meters” or other technical solutions that tie into school-based computers. These meters inform school personnel about energy use and allow for timely and efficient planning and switching (savings).

2) Behavioral Program:

EarthRise will help to establish “behavioral” support programs such as “eCoaches.” The eCoach program creates site-based student clubs (eClubs) that form prudent energy conservation practices on their respective campuses. The Project EarthRise team works with site leaders, students and school district administrators to create an “eBate Program” – a systematic, innovative method for rebating energy savings dollars back to deserving school sites.

4. Green Culture

Through the development of clubs, special activities and educational programs participating schools quickly spawn their own “green cultures.” Each school has a slightly different “look” because they select from a menu of options for creating a culture of environmental stewardship. That “menu” includes the following:

Gardening, Composting, Recycling, eWaste Recycling, Community Outreach, School Supply Reuse, Energy Auditing, Water Conservation, Musical Concerts, “eFairs,” Guest Speakers, Outdoor Adventure Club, Ecology Club, Roots & Shoots Club

The “green culture” principles allow students and teachers to practice “being green” in ways that best suit their personal strengths and interests. They give students opportunities to unleash their native interests and abilities in ways that increase both the depth and the complexity of their appreciation for our natural world.
